Corporate Spirit

Velcan Energy’s management team draws on a wide range on strong industrial, and financial backgrounds united by the entrepreneurial spirit of its two co-founders, Jean-Luc Rivoire and Antoine Decitre. Initially specialists in financing IT technology development, they recognised the potential of the energy market in India and Brazil, following liberalization of the regulatory environments in both countries, post 2003.

Velcan Energy consistently seeks to recruit local talent and expertise in all of the markets in which it operates, thereby ensuring that its energy plants are adapted to the unique climate, cultures and regulatory systems in which they operate.

Velcan Energy’s technical team is composed of industry veterans and is one of the most experienced in the world in the construction of hydroelectric power plants. During the course of their careers, team members involved in our concessions have been responsible for or significantly involved in the construction of:

• the Itaipu dam in Brazil (14,000 MW)
• the Naptha Jakri dam in India (1,500 MW, still the biggest running hydro power plant of India)
• the Tocoma dam on the Caroni in Venezuela (2,160 MW)
• the Gotvand dam in Iran (2,000 MW)
• the Berke dam in Turkey (underground hydroelectric power plant of 510 MW)

Jean-Luc RIVOIRE (Co-Managing Director Velcan Energy SA), São Paulo
Master of Engineering of Ecole Supérieure d’Electricité (SUPELEC), Schlumberger, PricewaterhouseCoopers, co-founder or first investor in several high tech start-ups between 1998 and 2001, successfuly resold to IBM Corp, Cisco, etc…Led the opening of Velcan Energy subsidiary in Brazil and oversaw the construction of the Rodeio Hydro Power concession (2008-2009). Obtained the 500 MW Yarjeep (India) concession.

Antoine DECITRE (Co-Managing Director Velcan Energy SA), Paris
Master of Engineering of Ecole nationale Polytechnique, PricewaterhouseCoopers, co-founder or first investor in several high tech start-ups between 1998 and 2001, successfuly resold to IBM Corp, Cisco, etc…Led the IPO of Velcan Energy in 2005 and the several subsequent fund raising (150 Meuros between 2005 and 2007).

Bernard TARDIEU (Senior Hydro Advisor)
Master of engineering of Ecole Centrale de Paris.Vice-president of the International Commission on large dams. Former CEO of Coyne et Bellier engineering company, member of Suez group. Participated in the building of about fifty dams and 7.000 MW in about thirty countries.

Benoit LABORIE (Director of Velcan Energy Dubai , Head of group legal affairs), Dubai
Master degree in business law, Lawyer degree. Former registered lawyer with the Paris Bar. Has accompanied the Company’s IPO with regards to legal and administrative aspects. Also responsible for the corporate governance issues of Velcan Energy and its subsidiaries in France and India, and in charge of the regulatory aspects related to the group activities in the power sector in India.

VK SHARMA (Senior Advisor Hydropower- Velcan Energy India Pvt Ltd), New Delhi
Mechanical engineering graduate of the Birla ITech. - 38 years of hydropower experience with the NHPC Ltd - as General Manager of the 1,500-MW Nathpa Jhakri project - Previously member of the Northern Regional Electricity Board.

Joaquim LOBO (Head of Brazilian operations), São Paulo
Mechanical engineer, former head of Engineering of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Brazilian subsidiary. During the last 30 years, he was involved in the construction of 100 industrial projects and 20 Power plants, for more than 800 MW.
